Men's Kimono Rental in Asakusa

Men’s kimono is the most overlooked rental in Asakusa. It gets treated as the outfit you put on to accompany somebody else, but the straight line and the muted colours give it more presence in a photograph than most people expect. It starts at ¥8,000 per person, dressing included.

How is a men’s kimono different from a women’s one?

Sleeves and silhouette. A men’s kimono has short sleeves with closed cuffs, and no fold gathered at the waist, so the whole garment falls in one line from shoulder to foot. That makes it easier to move in than it looks: walking the length of Nakamise, climbing the temple steps and sitting down for lunch all stay comfortable.

The colours run to navy, ink black and grey, and the interest comes from the weave and the sheen of the cloth rather than from a printed pattern. In photographs that turns out to be an advantage — against a vermilion gate or autumn maples, a calm colour holds the frame better than a loud one. What does the ¥8,000 include?

The kimono set, zori sandals, a matching bag and basic hair styling, with dressing included. There is no separate set fee and no charge for the accessories. Allow about an hour from arriving to walking out of the door.

Will it fit if I am tall?

If you are over 180 cm, or you are unsure about sizing for any other reason, get in touch before you book. Telling us once your date is fixed leaves everyone time to prepare, instead of discovering the question on the morning itself.

When does the kimono go back?

The set comes back by 17:00 on the same day. If you want the evening as well, you can extend to a next-day return for ¥1,100 per person and bring everything back by 14:00 the following day. Coming back after 17:00 counts as a next-day return too, at the same ¥1,100 per person.

What about the security deposit?

A refundable ¥10,000 per person is taken when you leave the store and returned in full when the kimono comes back. It sits alongside the rental price rather than being part of it.

Can I book together with the people I am travelling with?

Yes. A reservation deposit of ¥1,000 covers one to four guests and ¥2,000 covers five to eight, and paying it is what confirms the booking. Walk-ins are welcome, but guests with reservations are dressed first, so weekend mornings can mean waiting.

Everyone in your group picks whichever style they like, and each person is priced by the kimono they chose — there is no separate men’s group or women’s group.

What do people wear it for?

A visit to Senso-ji, an afternoon eating along Nakamise, an anniversary photograph — the reason can be an ordinary one. Couples and families often match their outfits, and plenty of guests come on their own and head straight out to take pictures.
