A studio session is a shoot done indoors, out of reach of the weather. There are two scenes: a tatami room with shoji screens, and a portrait set where the background drops away and only the person is left. Forty-five minutes with both scenes is ¥10,000, tax included.
Who is a studio session right for?
Guests shooting on a rainy day or in the heat of August, guests bringing a small child or an older relative, and guests who would rather come home with one portrait than with photographs of a walk. Indoors nobody wanders through the frame, and the light is identical from the first frame to the last.
If you want the streets of Asakusa in the picture, choose the outdoor session instead. If you want the pattern of the kimono and your expression to carry the picture, choose the studio. In the tatami room you can be photographed seated on the mats or framed against a hanging scroll. On the portrait set the background is reduced to a single tone, so the kimono and the face do the work.
What does the 45-minute session include?
Both scenes, 50 unedited photos and 5 retouched ones, for ¥10,000. This is the plan that uses the tatami room and the portrait set in the same booking.
How is the 20-minute set different?
The 20-minute set is ¥3,000 and covers one scene of the two, with 20 unedited photos and 2 retouched ones. It is an add-on for guests who have already booked a photo session, so it cannot be reserved on its own. Think of it as the extra scene you add after the 45 minutes rather than as a cheaper way in.
When do the photos arrive?
The unedited files reach you within 2 days as a cloud download link. Retouched photos are delivered within 5 business days of you finishing your selection. Additional retouched photos are ¥500 each.
Does the price include the kimono rental?
It does not. The shoot and the rental are two separate charges. Komon starts at ¥6,000 and children’s kimono at ¥5,500, and that rental price covers the kimono set, zori sandals, a matching bag and basic hair styling.
Make-up is ¥4,500 per person. It has to be reserved in advance, so please ask for it when you book rather than on the day.
How many of us can be photographed together?
Up to 4 guests per photographer. For a larger family or group, tell us the number when you book so we can plan it. If a child is joining the shoot, let us know the child’s gender and height before booking, because children’s kimono are the hardest sizes to match.
Booking and the day itself
Photo sessions must be booked in advance and cannot be added on the day. The photography reservation deposit is ¥2,000, and your booking is confirmed once it is paid.
On the day you are dressed and your hair is done first, then you go straight to the set. If you keep the kimono on afterwards and walk around Asakusa, it comes back by 17:00 the same day.
