How much is the deposit for a kimono rental in Asakusa, and when is it refunded?

There are two payments at Ennichi Kimono: the reservation deposit that confirms your booking, and the security deposit taken when you walk out in the kimono. The names are similar, but the amounts, the moment you pay them and what happens to them afterwards are all different.

What is the reservation deposit for, and how much is it?

It is what confirms your booking. The kimono reservation deposit is ¥1,000 for one to four guests and ¥2,000 for five to eight; the photography reservation deposit is ¥2,000. You book through the website or customer support, and the booking is confirmed once that payment goes through.

Photo sessions are booked in advance, so if you want photographs you will use both the kimono reservation deposit and the photography one.

How much is the security deposit?

¥10,000 per person, taken when you head out. For premium furisode it is ¥20,000 per person. This is not a charge — it is money we hold for the hours the kimono is out of the shop with you.

It also sits outside the plan price. The plan price covers the kimono set, zori sandals, a matching bag and basic hair styling; the security deposit is neither included in that figure nor deducted from it.

Why is the deposit higher for furisode?

The security deposit has two tiers: ¥10,000 per person for standard sets and ¥20,000 per person for premium furisode.

Furisode is the long-sleeved, most formal category, and its plan price is also the highest of all at ¥25,000. If furisode is on your list, budget for the ¥20,000 tier rather than the standard one.

When is the security deposit refunded?

When the kimono comes back, in full. Return by 17:00 on the day and you get it back at the counter there and then.

After 17:00 the rental becomes a next-day return with a ¥1,100 per-person fee, and because the refund happens at the handover, it moves to 14:00 the following day along with the kimono. If you are catching an early train out of Tokyo the next morning, build that gap into your plan.

Until when can I cancel or change the date?

Free cancellation and date changes close at 20:00 the day before your visit. After that we cannot accept a change or a cancellation, bad weather included, so check the forecast the evening before.

Separately, arrivals more than 30 minutes past the booked time may not be dressed, and that slot is not refunded. Give yourself a margin on the day.

How do the deposits work for a group?

The security deposit is per person. Four guests in standard sets means ¥10,000 times four held at the counter, all of it returned when the kimonos come back. The larger the group, the larger the sum sitting with us for the day, so have the cash or the card limit ready.

The reservation deposit counts differently. ¥1,000 for one to four guests and ¥2,000 for five to eight is a per-booking figure for that party size, not a per-person one. Security deposit per head, reservation deposit per booking — that one distinction is what keeps the maths straight on the day.
