Furisode Kimono Rental in Asakusa

Furisode is the kimono whose sleeves do the talking. They swing when you walk and they change the air of every photograph. It is the set most often chosen by guests who want one genuinely special day in Asakusa rather than a comfortable afternoon of sightseeing.

What kind of kimono is furisode?

It is the most formal style worn by unmarried women. If komon says “I am spending the day in this neighbourhood”, furisode says “this day is an occasion”. Guests wear it for coming-of-age celebrations and family milestones — and also for no reason at all beyond wanting the photograph in front of Senso-ji.

The obi changes with it. Furisode is worn with a fukuro obi, which is wider than the half-width obi used with casual styles and gives the back of the outfit real presence.

What does the ¥25,000 price include?

The furisode, the under-layer, a fukuro obi, zori sandals, a matching bag and basic hair styling. Dressing is part of the price, and nothing in that list is billed separately.

Two things are optional. Make-up is ¥4,500 per person and must be reserved in advance. A more elaborate hairstyle is ¥1,700 per person and can usually be added at the counter. If you want the obi tied more dramatically, a decorative kawari knot is ¥3,000 and an otaiko knot is ¥1,500.

How much is the deposit?

Premium furisode carry a security deposit of ¥20,000 per person while you are out, compared with ¥10,000 for other styles. It is a holding amount, not a fee: it is returned in full when the kimono comes back, and it is separate from the rental price.

How long does the day take?

Allow about an hour from arriving to walking out, including hair. Furisode takes a little longer than komon because tying the obi is more involved.

The set returns by 17:00 the same day. If you want the evening as well, extend to a next-day return for ¥1,100 per person and bring it back by 14:00.

When should I book?

We hold a limited number of furisode and weekend mornings go early. Walk-ins are occasionally possible, but book as soon as your date is fixed.

The reservation deposit is ¥1,000 for one to four guests and ¥2,000 for five to eight. Cancellations and date changes are free until 20:00 the day before your visit.
