Group Kimono Rental in Asakusa

Five to eight people in kimono for a day in Asakusa — a graduation trip, a company outing, three generations of one family. What changes with numbers is not the kimono itself but four things: the reservation deposit, the security deposit, how a photo session is split, and how the day is shaped. What changes when five or more of you book?

The reservation deposit. It is ¥1,000 for one to four guests and ¥2,000 for five to eight, and paying it confirms the booking. One booking is enough for the whole party — the numbers and the make-up of the group go on the same form. Changes and cancellations are free until 20:00 the day before you come, which is a useful line to know when a group’s numbers are still moving.

How do we work out the total?

Add each person’s price together. Komon from ¥6,000, lace from ¥7,000, a men’s set from ¥8,000, a child’s kimono from ¥5,500. There is no group rate, so whether five of you come or eight, the total is simply the styles you picked laid end to end. Every one of those prices includes the kimono set, zori sandals, a bag and basic hair styling. A separate page breaks down what is inside that figure item by item.

Only four things carry an extra charge: make-up at ¥4,500 each, elaborate hair styling at ¥1,700 each, an upgrade to a fukuro obi at ¥1,500 for an otaiko knot or ¥3,000 for a decorative one, and next-day return at ¥1,100 each. With a group these become multiplications, so deciding early whether everyone takes them or only some of you keeps the total readable. Make-up is reserved in advance and is not added on the day.

What if women, men and children are all coming?

Put them on the same booking. There are ten styles in the line-up and the two Asakusa shops charge the same prices. If children are coming, it helps to tell us their gender and height before you book. Anyone over 180cm, or anyone unsure about sizing, is also better asking before the day rather than on it.

How does a photo session work for eight?

One photographer covers up to four guests, so a party of eight is arranged as two groups of four. Deciding which half goes first at the time of booking is the steadiest way to do it. What time do we arrive, and what time do we return?

Same-day return is by 17:00, and that hour does not move with the size of the group. Five people and eight people finish the day at the same moment, so the earlier in the day you arrive, the more of it you spend walking around in the kimono; the shops open at 09:00. To stay out into the evening, ¥1,100 per person extends the rental to the next day, back by 14:00. The clothes you change out of are kept for you free of charge; valuables stay with you.

What to have ready when you book

The number of guests and who they are, the part of the day you want, and whether photographs are part of it. For children, gender and height; for anyone over 180cm, a note to that effect. Knowing how many people want make-up or elaborate hair also makes the morning quicker. After that it is the ¥2,000 reservation deposit, and the booking is confirmed.
